17 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss: 6 pounds
Maternity clothes? I bought some new clothes.  Technically they aren't "maternity," but they are one size bigger than I normally wear.
Stretch marks? Not yet
Sleep: I had the luxury of sleeping in this week and it was wonderful!
Miss anything: Clear skin. . . this week my hormones took over.  I've never had this many blemishes in my life.
Movement: Not yet :(
Food cravings: No "cravings," but this week I ate way too many breakfast carbs throughout the day (think: cereal, english muffins, and toast).  Luckily I have been enjoying salads again, so it shouldn't be too hard to get back on track.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing new . . .  fried food, overpowering scents and barbecue sauce.
Have you started to show yet: Yep
Gender Prediction: Boy
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy :)
Best Moment of the Week:  Having a whole week to clean and organize!
Looking forward to: Still waiting for that first little flutter. . . any day now.

Mid-Winter Break To Do List:
- Organize pictures . . . CHECK
- PLAN nursery . . . NOT REALLY
- Rearrange the entire house to create a nursery . . . CHECK
- Go into school one day . . . CHECK
- Organize classroom library. . . NOPE

I told myself . . . and Jon that I was NOT going to tear our house apart this week.  I wasn't going to start putting the nursery together.  I was only going to start PLANNING the nursery.  Well,  that lasted about 1 day, and I think it was only because we were in Bellingham last Friday.  Saturday morning was a whole different story. . .

On Saturday I woke up determined to figure out how our two spare rooms could still occupy an office, a guest room and a nursery.  We have 2 spare rooms in our home.  One is right across from the guest bath and it is a little bit larger.  It has a window seat and the closet is significantly bigger.  This is the room we were planning for the nursery, so this summer (when I could still paint) I painted this room the color we wanted for a nursery.  The second bedroom is smaller.  It's at the end of the hallway (right next to our bedroom), and it has not been painted.  I thought our decision had been made months ago but, this past December my decision started to change.

In December we experienced vandalism in our neighborhood.  Early one Wednesday morning two individuals decided to go on a tire slashing rampage.  Three neighborhood blocks (including our street) were hit.  The individuals slashed the tires of every car parked outside that night.  Unfortunately,  I was in the process of painting my lovely chalkboard (see above) so we parked BOTH cars outside that night. :(   Aside from the fact that we had to replace 8 tires on our cars, I began to question the safety and security of our neighborhood.  Specifically, I began to question if I wanted the nursery to have a window which faces the driveway.  The smaller bedroom faces the neighbor's house,  it is sandwiched between two gates and overall it seemed safer.  I then came up with a list of all of the cons for the larger room;  babies don't need that much space, we would benefit from having the larger closet for storage, the smaller room is darker (since it isn't near the exterior garage lights), it's safer, etc.  It had been decided, we would switch the rooms and I would spend mid-winter break deciding a new color palette and prep the room so Jon could paint it.

But, when it came down to planning.  We both decided the pros of the larger baby room outweighed the cons.  Which brings me back to last Saturday, when I spent the day tearing the house apart to create a nursery.  Although it took a week, I got all of our closets, paperwork, pictures, and pretty much anything else you can shove in two closets organized.  Everything has a home and if it didn't, it went in the attic or on Craigslist.  I completed a much needed early spring cleaning.  It was a lot of work, but I feel like our home is finally coming together.  Every room is slowly getting completed and we are beginning to make room for baby.*

Oh, and that plan to organize at school.  After spending three days tearing my house apart I decided my classroom library was going to take more than an afternoon, and I wanted to spend my break at home.  I did go into school for about an hour early in the week.  I organized paperwork that I had been too lazy to put away had acquired over the last couple weeks.

For those of you wondering where the nursery pictures are . . . they will be posted in the next couple weeks.  It's in the very early design stage and I'm not ready to share it yet.  :)

*Meesha Note:  She's not too pleased with all of the moving that took place this week.  Either she was getting worried we were moving again (this is the longest she's lived somewhere) or she's starting to sense something is up.  When walking down the hallway she often stops at the nursery and just stares in the room.  She is also getting frustrated because there are a couple stuffed animals in the nursery and she can't understand why I won't let her play with them.  She will learn to share . . . hopefully.

Total weight gain/loss:  5.5 pounds
Maternity clothes? Not really, but I need to go shopping for some new clothes.

Movement: Not yet
Food cravings: No "cravings," but I had a PB&J for lunch almost everyday this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing new . . .  fried food, overpowering scents and barbecue sauce.
Have you started to show yet: Yep, I have a little bump that lasts all day.
Gender Prediction: Ummm . . . boy? I dunno.
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy :)
Best Moment of the Week:  This week my students started drawing pictures for the baby . . . not of the baby, but pictures for the baby.  They have pictures for if it is a girl and if it is a boy.  I also have a couple of girls who want to have a baby shower.  I told them we would wait until this spring.
Looking forward to: Feeling a little flutter (quickening). . . any day now.

Short post this week.  It was very busy and very exhausting.  Luckily I now have a week to recover.  Thank goodness for mid-winter break!!!  I am going to spend the week organizing pictures.  I have about 2 years worth of pictures and trips to organize.  I don't want there to be any excuses to get behind with baby pictures!

I am also going to work decorating the nursery.  Picking out paint samples, looking for curtains and deciding exactly what the color scheme is going to be . . .  we have ideas and now it's time to get serious.

I think I might also pop into school one day to organize my classroom library.  It works but, it is not up to my organizational standards. :)  We'll see . . .  this one is near the bottom of my to do list.

Looking forward to: Mid-Winter Break so I can start the nursery . . . only one more week.

I feel like all I have done this week is talk about the baby. . .  Not that it's a bad thing. :)

On Monday, I informed the rest of the staff that we were expecting.  I placed an enlarged version of our Valentine's Day card, along with a couple arrows to "look closely" at the picture and "Baby Cooper is due in July," in our staff room.  I also included a bowl of blue and pink salt water taffy. . .  teachers always love treats. :)  This was such an easy way to tell the staff without having to make a big announcement at a meeting and it eliminated the repetitive conversations.

Then, on Wednesday I told my students.  Before reading our morning message, I told them I had something exciting to share.  After a couple questions it was very easy to redirect them so we didn't linger on the topic too long.   The students were so excited and they all wanted to know when they would meet the baby.  On Thursday one of my ELL students told me "Congratulations on having a baby."  It was so sweet and I was so proud of her English.  Not so sweet, pointing to my stomach all day and saying "you're having a baby."  She then later informed me that she thinks I am having a girl. . .

It finally happened.  Wednesday morning I woke up and remembered one of my dreams.  I don't remember my dreams too often but, I certainly remembered this one.  Jon and I are planning on going to Maui next year for my mid-winter break and in my dream we brought a beautiful BABY GIRL with us!  I finally had a baby dream and it seems as though all the signs are pointing to this little one being a girl . . . Jon thinks it's a girl, baby dream says girl, and my student thinks I'm having a girl.  I guess it's time to rethink my predication . . .  this week I'll say girl.  But, we will have to wait until July to find out! :)

P.S. Thank you for all of the kind words, well wishes and overall excitement that has been shared.   We feel so blessed to have such a wonderful group and family and friends supporting us throughout this journey.  We can't wait to share the joy when our little one arrives this summer.   Thank you!

How far along? 14 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 4.5 pounds
Maternity clothes? Not maternity . . . but I did buy some new tops this week.
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: I slept great . . . but Jon says I was up coughing every night this week.

Movement: Not yet (this seems to be the question of the week)
Food cravings: Chicken soup and tea since I wasn't feeling that great.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Barbecue sauce gives me horrible indigestion and I only lasted about 30 seconds in Abercrombie before I had to leave the store.
Have you started to show yet: I still look chubby but in the afternoon it looks more like a bump.
Gender Prediction: Boy, but Jon says Girl
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy :)
Best Moment of the Week: Lots this week . . . See below for some highlights.
Looking forward to: Starting to plan the nursery

Busy, Busy Week . . . Here are some of the highlights:

Monday:  I learned some of my dress pants can't remain buttoned throughout the day.  Sadly the belly band I have is still too big for me right now.  It's the smallest size but I'm still too petite.  I guess some pants will have to remain in the closet until I can wear the band or until next school year.

Tuesday:  Prepared to talk with my principal I arrived at school only to remember she was at a meeting all day.  So, I delivered our Valentine's Day card to my kindergarten team.  I loved observing their reactions while they looked at the card.  It was so similar to what many of our friends and family have told us over the phone.  We love the delayed realization regarding our "plus one."

Wednesday:  This week I got my first cold.  I knew I would eventually get something.  It's impossible to stay 100% healthy with 4-5 kiddos out sick each day. :(  I sounded horrible, but luckily I felt fine.  I was staying hydrated, taking it easy, and getting an extra hour of sleep each night  . . . or so I thought.  Jon told me that every night this week I was up coughing all. night. long.  Ooops!  Sorry babe . .  .

Thursday: aka my Friday.  I have a busy work week coming up and I was ready for the weekend!  On the weekend agenda . . . deciding how to tell the rest of the staff that I am expecting . ? . ?

Friday:  Today we had our 14 week appointment.  We finally met our doctor (at our last appointments he was either delivering a baby or out of town).  So far our pregnancy has been fairly easy, so we didn't have too many questions or concerns.  We did however get the results from our 12 week testing.  Our baby is absolutely healthy and we couldn't be happier.  At the end of the appointment we had  an opportunity to take a quick look at baby Cooper.  Baby was sleeping upside down so our picture isn't that great.  The nurse tried to get him to wake up and move a bit, but Jon blames my coughing for keeping him up all night.  Guess it's a good thing I'm not feeling any movement yet.

After our appointment we headed up to Bellingham for the evening.  I was so excited to support my sister-in-law during opening night of her show "Hello, My Name is You."  The show was fabulous and she was absolutely amazing!  Her passion and dedication was inspiring.  What a great way to end the week.
